SALEH BAY

Gili-Panjang-(Small)Name “Saleh” of this bay is remain unknown till nowadays, are not in recorded history, both ancient and modern records. In some of the old Atlas, the name of Saleh Bay called “Sallee”. Clearly the name of Saleh is not the name of the kings who once ruled the island of Sumbawa, nor the name of a famous figure in Sumbawa. So the name of Saleh of this bay is still a mystery.

Saleh Bay has an area of 1459 square kilometers, and its length reaches 282 Km. Large size, two times the city of Jakarta. This bay is a semi-enclosed bay and ocean are directly related to Flores sea.
In the vast expanse of sparkling blue sea, this bay dotted by uninhabited beautiful islands. and some of them are inhabited by fishermen of Bajo and Bugis, but most of the islands are uninhabited.

Moyo Island which is famous for its beauty is like a wave barrier for Flores Sea, located right at the mouth of the bay, with 2 small strait that split it, split between the North of Saleh bay with the main island of Sumbawa, and the northern tip of a small island called Satonda.
